My mother’s hospitalization

Dear friends,

My mother has been hospitalized after suffering unbearable pain for some time. Two weeks ago, she was diagnosed with pleural effusion and had to undergo a chest drainage procedure.

We have already had to pay privately for numerous medical costs — including tests, scans, the chest drainage itself, and several prescribed medications — because our public hospitals do not have these facilities or medicines. This has already strained me beyond my means.

Now, despite the chest drainage, she is still in great pain. The cytology test results revealed “clusters of suspiciously atypical cells on a haemorrhagic background”, and doctors have now ordered an abdominal CT scan to determine whether these cells are cancerous or malignant. The CT scan alone costs US$300, not including the additional medications and tests that continue to be prescribed during her hospitalization.

This has become too much for me to bear alone, especially as an only child with no one else to assist me financially.
